At Cougar Valley, we have been listening.
Over the past several months, we have heard from families during conferences, from volunteers who have already spent time in our school, from parents sharing feedback through ParentSquare, and through the broader listening taking place across our district. A clear message has come through: our teachers and staff are carrying a great deal, and our community wants to help.
Teaching today asks more of educators than ever before. In addition to teaching, they are preparing materials, managing technology, handling communication, organizing classrooms, and meeting a wide range of student needs throughout the day. Much of that work is essential, but not all of it requires a teacher to be the one doing it.
That is why we are preparing to launch the Cougar Valley volunteer program on April 17.
The purpose is simple: connect real school needs to caring people who are willing to help. When a volunteer gives 30 minutes, that can mean 30 minutes returned to a teacher for lesson planning, student support, preparation, or other professional work that directly strengthens the classroom experience for children.
This is not about asking people to fill space. It is about giving time back to classrooms. It is about helping our school feel more supported, more welcoming, and more connected. It is about making sure that when teachers need help with the many tasks surrounding instruction, they have a community ready to step in.
This effort also reflects what we value as a district and as a school community. We know students do better when families and community members are engaged in their education, and we know strong schools are built through partnership, belonging, and trust.
The good news is that Cougar Valley already has that kind of heart. Our community has shown again and again that when there is a real need, people are willing to show up. We are grateful for that spirit, and we are working to create a clearer, simpler way for people to serve.
In the coming days, we will begin sharing volunteer opportunities ahead of our April 17 launch. Some will support teachers directly. Some will support spaces like the library, lunchroom, recess, events, and other parts of the school day that matter deeply to students and staff. All of them will be designed to be meaningful, well-defined, and respectful of student privacy and staff time.
If you have time to give, whether once in a while or on a regular basis, I hope you will consider being part of this effort.
Your time matters here.
Your presence matters here.
And your support can make a real difference for students and staff at Cougar Valley.
Thank you for being part of this community and for all the ways you continue to support our school.
